Xiang Yi completed her Master of Clinical Psychology degree from the National University of Malaysia. She underwent rigorous trainings under the psychiatry and psychology departments in major hospitals and clinics.
Before working in Dynamics, Xiang Yi worked in an inter-disciplinary paediatric centre in Beijing, China that serves the local and expatriates’ families, the local and international schools. This working experience has not only built on her clinical skills but her cultural sensitivity and ethical consciousness when working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Xiang Yi’s expertise includes providing comprehensive assessments and psychotherapy/intervention for children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental, psycho-educational, emotional, behavioural and neurological concerns. In these processes, she actively involves the clients and other key individuals such as parents/caregivers and teachers. She adopts the holistic and subjective stances in helping them to be aware, to understand and accept the clients’ challenges. She believes that every child is striving to be good. Therefore, empathy and compassion from the adults are important to help them to create insights and build on their resources to overcome the challenges.
In the therapeutic journey with the clients, Xiang Yi applies behavioural, cognitive behavioural, solution-focused and mindfulness approaches with integration of creative and expressive elements. She also recognizes the importance of strength-focused intervention, in which she guides the clients to identify and apply their strengths to restore, compensate and/or substitute their weaknesses and/or challenges. She provides guidance to the parents and teachers via one-on-one consultation, group discussion and workshops to empower them in caretaking and/or guiding the clients to overcome their challenges, further enhance clients’ resilience and improve relationship among them.
